“She is clothed with strength and dignity, and she laughs without fear of the future”. Proverbs 31:25
This verse makes me think a lot about the women I work with who are in emotionally destructive marriages.
One of the major patterns that I’ve noticed is that women end up marrying a narcissist because one of their parents was one. (It’s common for people to marry someone like one of his or her parents.)
One way you can work towards building your self-esteem is through counselling, and in my own experience, I am so glad that I was seeing a therapist when I was engaged to my former fiance. I told her how disappointed I was in our relationship and she told me pretty frankly that it wasn’t going to get better if I got married.
She reminded me that before marriage most people are usually on their best behaviour and with hindsight, I’m so happy I made the decision to break off the engagement, because marrying my now present husband who is such a better fit for me, was the best thing I ever did.
