Writing has always been the way I process my thoughts and feelings. An outlet. When I put my pen to paper or fingers on the keyboard, it feels like home. So when I started to feel God tugging at my heart to share my writing, I was hesitant.
I made excuses for months maybe even years, but last spring, I finally started writing the book God had laid on my heart years ago.
Little did I know that while my book is still in progress, this choice to obey God’s call would open other opportunities for ministering through writing and social media.
Nearly a decade ago my husband and I suffered through years of infertility, failed adoption, job loss and finally the loss of our infant daughter, Faith Isabella. I wrestled with my faith during this difficult season, but chose to run toward God with my broken heart and questioning mind.
It was during this season of my life God taught me that faith is a choice beyond what I see or feel.
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7
Through the loss of Faith Isabella, God opened my eyes to many who are hurting within the body of Christ. After my deepest season of grief, God set his words from 2 Corinthians 1:3-4 in my heart:
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the same comfort we ourselves received from Christ.” 2 Corinthians 1:3-4
With these words echoing in my heart, I began a support group in my community called “Held: Support for mothers after pregnancy and infant loss.” Through facilitating the Held support group, I saw the Lord draw near to the brokenhearted (Psalm 34:18), and witnessed his comfort and his presence among the beautiful souls who attended.
Through this new ministry, Choosing Faith 23, I hope to create an even larger community of encouragement. I pray that I can connect with hurting people and guide them toward the God of all comfort, no matter what type of loss or hardship they are experiencing.
