Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new. 2 Corinthians 5 V 17
The old has gone and the new has come. This part of scripture resonates with me when I think about my journey in discovering my purpose in the faith, and becoming more like Christ.
In the past I would go to parties most nights, drink heavily and hang out with the wrong crowd.
One day a friend told me about Jesus and invited me to church. It was there that I realised that I had an emptiness inside me that only God could fill. I was also very depressed and drinking to numb the pain.
After I prayed for Jesus to come into my life, I stopped clubbing and drinking and God led me on the path to becoming a singer and minister.
Suddenly my countenance and outlook on life changed.
I began writing songs about my transition from darkness to light from hopelessness to faith and this became the message of my ministry.
My grandmother also played a pivotal role as she had always encouraged me to sing when I was very young and I stopped for a while until later in life God showed me He wanted me to sing for Him.
I began singing in the outreach team at church in early 2000, joined a choir in 2008 and some years later began singing as a solo artist, where I wrote and performed songs about my faith to soul music. It gave me an opportunity to testify about what God has done for me.
I also retrained to become a Speech and Language Therapist. Now I work with adults with brain injuries and find it very rewarding.
As I look back, I can say God has changed me and given me a different direction in life from the potential destruction I was heading towards.
He has done a great work in me and shown that He will never leave me nor forsake me. My faith in Him is strong and my trust in Him is for ever growing.
I am now looking forward to the future in anticipation for all the good things God has in store.
