I am a wife, mother, grandmother, graphic designer, and branding professional turned full-time artist!
My career as an artist began in the world of graphic design at California College of the Arts in San Francisco.
Surrounded by the beautiful design, art and culture of the 70’s, I developed a love for the marriage between image and the expression of ideas, concepts and messaging. The following years were spent creating for corporate and executive branding clients at my company, Pelican Studios Branding & Communications in Vancouver, BC.
In 2018, I said goodbye to Pelican and Vancouver, married the love of my life, moved to the beautiful canyons of SoCal and embarked on a full time Fine Art career – very exciting all around!
Ever passionate about the love affair between message and image, the inspiration for my work is the wisdom and elegant language of Old Testament and New Testament scripture. My style is conceptual, abstract, wild, happy, sometimes hard-edged, balanced, vibrant and inviting in color, form and feel. I paint mainly with acrylics on canvas.
My designer / branding roots ensures each painting means something and communicates an idea. My Christian roots inspire me to express what I know of God as He is revealed in Old Testament and New Testament scriptures, and in my life. The artist in me wants to create something beautiful and interesting – this happy triad is what drives me to paint.
Art appreciation is quite subjective and my work is expressed in many different styles.
While I hope everyone enjoys it and sees things that make them feel good or be entertained, I’ve become focused and bold when talking with Christ-followers and non Christ-followers alike as to the inspiration behind the paintings.
Most are receptive whether they have affinity for the Word or not. I hope that my work conveys a message of love, peace, forgiveness and most of all the love of Jesus. On the front of each artwork is a little number indicating the chapter and verse for the inspiration.
I feel the gentle push of the Spirit to keep going and keep providing paintings to Christ-followers to encourage them to keep their eyes on Jesus … or maybe be a conversation starter to help those far from God come near. Most of all, I pray for a move of the Holy Spirit wherever my work is viewed.
As a perfectionist who has had the best training, I still struggle. Good training and experience are definitely not enough!
When I don’t get the results I want and have hit rough patches, there is always a reason why I’m not able to create. I’ve learned to examine my life and listen to the Spirit who will show me an area of sin in my life – an action, an attitude or a word.
My story has been anything but a straight line or an easy path. There has been brokenness and discouragement.
In the last 2 years, I’ve had 2 detached retinas and another serious eye condition. The enemy has tried to stop me from painting and speaking God’s truth into people’s lives but he has not and will not succeed because but no weapon formed against me will prosper (Isaiah 54.17) I also love Psalm 32.8 which reads; “I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go ... I will guide you with my eye”.
My free-spirited artist-person has learned it’s easier to be instructed than taught!
Whether I am painting or designing, I know any success I have is all a gift from the Lord. I can’t do anything at all without Him. One of my favorite quotes is from Pastor Jack Hayford:
“Without Him, we cannot, without us, He will not”.
That beautiful relationship is so wonderful so I want to stay close.
