Perfected in the fire: My story of overcoming it

September 10, 2020 THE MMA TEAM

It is often said that a Christian is the devil’s easiest target, and soon as I started my Christian journey the enemy started attacking me left, right and centre.

In the book of Luke Jesus, Himself said these words to Simon “And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat: But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren”.

I know without a shadow of a doubt, that it is the strength of Jesus Christ that carried me from then to now.

As soon as I accepted Jesus, all hell broke loose in my life. I had been visiting a church with a friend of mine for a couple of years but it was nothing serious. One sabbath while in the church  I felt the need to go to the altar after the pastor made an appeal to those in the congregation who felt led to come forward. I had been to the altar before but this time was different, a sense of urgency came over me to give my life to the Lord.

I did not tell anyone that I was getting baptized (only friends who attended that church ). My baptism happened one night at a crusade.

A feeling of calm and peace came over me after I got baptized, but maybe that was just the calm before my storm. A couple months later I got married. I got married in December and by February everything started going wrong.

MY FIERY TRIALS

When February arrived my mom turned on me. I mean it was terrible. She started having unreasonable issues with my husband which were baseless.

They really didn’t know each other because my mom and  I had always had a rocky relationship. What should have been the happiest time of my life turned out to be a season of pure agony.

Let us backtrack for a minute, I was sick before I got baptized but it got ten times worst, three months after I got married. So not only was I dealing with the problems between my mom and husband but I was facing an illness that suddenly spiralled out of control. I was in and out of the hospital until I had  minor surgery and got some relief.

They say when bad things happen they come in threes:  My mother and my husband started having issues in February, my sickness progressed in March and to top it all off by May, one of my friends who was instrumental in my baptism, accused me of something terrible which broke my faith.

ANGRY WITH GOD

I was so angry with God because I was thinking I am a babe in christ, how could He allow all these things to happen to me?

By the Summer, I stopped going to church because as far as I was concerned God did not love me.

To make matters worse Christians who were older in the faith kept telling me that God would not have let it happen if he didn’t know that I could handle it! That just made me mad! As far as I was concerned I wasn’t strong enough to handle any of the things that were happening.

TRUST IN GOD NO MATTER WHAT

It took me 5  years to realize that everything happens for a reason. We may not be able to identify the reason while we are going through our fiery trials but we just have to trust that God knows best.

Romans 8:2

“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.”KJV

PRAYER CAN CHANGE ANYTHING

Prayer is very important in our Christian life. When we pray God hears and he answers. Just remember that prayer is a conversation so when you pray listen,  God always has an answer for us. It  might not be what you want to hear, but always remember that God knows best.

Philippians 4:6

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.”KJV

THINGS WILL NOT ALWAYS GO BACK TO THE WAY THEY WERE

I am no longer close friends with the person that accused me of something I did not do.  Thankfully there is no animosity and we are able to be cordial with each other.

My mom and I speak even though there is still a bit of tension.

 FORGIVENESS IS A PROCESS

Forgiveness is divine, and the act of our will, We have to ask God to help us to forgive others because without forgiveness we can’t heal and grow spiritually.

I am still a work in progress but by the grace of God, I will make it.

Mark 11:25-26

“And when ye stand praying, forgive, if ye have ought against any: that your Father also which is in heaven may forgive you your trespasses.” “But if ye do not forgive, neither will your Father which is in heaven forgive your trespasses.”KJV

IN CONCLUSION

As I am writing this I have been sick again for the last 21/2 years and the doctors have not been able to offer a diagnosis.

I have some bad days and some good days but life must go on.

When deciding to give our life to Christ it comes with trials and tribulations. The storms will get rough at times but hold on to Jesus through prayer, fasting and reading your bible.

Study Gods words and pray often because times will come when you can’t even pray.

We all sin and fall short, but don’t beat up yourself.  Just ask God for forgiveness and try not to repeat that sin. None of us are perfect.

Always keep in mind that God can heal any broken heart, and trust God No matter what.
